Nothing really compares to buying a brand new Dior or a Prada piece from one of their boutiques. But something comes close: purchasing pre-loved luxury items, at a fraction of the original price too! From a vintage Chanel bag, to a sporty Rolex, to a classic Louis Vuitton tote, here’s how you can care for your luxury valuables to maintain their condition in the years to come.

Leather
One of the most common materials used in luxury bags, shoes and wallets is leather. Like any other material, over time it will show signs of wear but provide it with proper care and it will last a lifetime.
Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe away dust and dirt. Avoid using harsh chemicals because it may damage the leather.
Invest in a good quality leather conditioner to prevent the leather from cracking as well as keep it supple.
Store leather goods away from sunlight and heat sources to prevent discolouration and drying.
Stuff bags with crumpled paper or foam when not in use to help them retain their shape. Avoid using plastic as it can trap moisture and cause mildew or odor.

Canvas and Fabric
Another common material used in many luxury bags and accessories. These require a different care from leather.
If your bag is made of canvas (like many Louis Vuitton bags are), apply a fabric protector as a repellent for stains and water damage.
If your bag is made from fabric, keep it in a cool, dark place when not in use as it can fade due to prolonged exposure to the sun
Use a mild soap and water solution for small stains. But remember to test it on an unnoticeable area first! This is to ensure it doesn’t affect the colour.

Watches
Luxury watches are more than just a timepiece to be flaunted on your wrist. They’re complex pieces of art forged by skilled craftsmanship.
Mechanical watches should be serviced every 3-5 years to check for possible issues: rust, wear on the movement, or for quartz models, battery life.
Use a microfiber cloth to wipe the surface of your watch regularly. Waterproof watches can be rinsed under lukewarm water occasionally to free them from dirt or salt buildup.
Store watches in a cool and dry place away from extreme temperatures. If you do not wear your watch frequently, store it in a watch box to avoid any potential damage.
Some additional tips!
Avoid overloading your bags as it may cause unnecessary wear and tear.
Take your bag for a restoration if you discover loose or broken stitches or cracks on the bag surface.
It’s helpful to remember that proper care of your luxury goods in good shape doesn’t just keep them in good shape but it also helps to retain their investment potential. Maintaining your goods isn’t just about keeping them clean and in good condition - it is also about preserving the craftsmanship that went into making your item, the design and the value of it. It is about conserving the exclusivity of these luxury items you have in your possession. Hence, with the right maintenance, your preloved luxury items can continue to add value as well as beauty to your collection!
